Smartphones are unique technology that has made life and existence easy and simpler. The technology provides fun through games and social media apps such as Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, etc.
It may be fun scrolling Instagram, Facebook, checking mails while using the toilet or defecating, however Healthline mentioned that the act can cause “some real dirty consequences to your health” as it increases chances or risk of hemorrhoids.
According to Mayo Clinic, Hemorrhoid or Piles is a health condition characterized by swollen and inflamed veins in the anus and lower rectum similar to Varicose veins that causes bleeding and discomfort especially when sitting.
Healthline stated that using phones in the bathroom or toilet causes prolonged sitting because one tends to be distracted focusing one’s attention on the phone while carrying out the fun activity without considering the amount of time spent there. This prolonged sitting induces much strain which in turn causes haemorrhoid.
However, it is not just the act of using a phone in the toilet while pooping that is the problem but the prolong period you have to sit in the toilet when scrolling through the phone.
In conclusion, it is important that you spend less time in the convenience or toilet with or without your phone, however, avoid entering the toilet with smartphones as it may prolong the period you stay there.
