Fasting as we all know is the moment where one stays away from food and water within a particular duration for a reason. The reason could be religious or health, but in both ways, there is a particular point in time where we take in something to break the fast.
But one major concern is what food or drink with which people break their fasting. Scientifically fasting has very significant health benefits for the body which is another topic we will look at another time, but the sad thing is we end up inviting dangerous health problems to our body.
Whether you are fasting for religious or health reasons, never break your fast with the foods mentioned below;
Nuts and Seed. Nuts such as groundnut, coconut food, Beans etc shouldn’t be eaten right after fasting. They contain high-fat content which takes longer for the body to digest for the needed energy the body needs. This in turn causes stomach problems.
Foods that contain simple sugar such as processed fruit juice made from soda and ester should be avoided due to its high chemical content. You should rather go in for naturally made fruit juice like smoothies.
Raw cruciferous vegetables. Eating raw vegetables right after fasting is dangerous to your health despite the numerous health benefit of vegetables. The reason is that raw vegetables contain strong phytochemicals which when digested alone can harm the body. You can replace them with cooked ones.
Alcohol. The least said about alcohol the better. Generally, intake of alcohol has adverse effects on the body even when drunk alongside food. So imagine what taking it right after fasting will do to your body.
Red Meat. Red meat such as pork, beef mutton etc is very high in protein which takes longer to digest. The body needs immediate energy after fasting so taking red meat is a bad choice since it can replenish the lost energy the body needs within the shortest possible time.
Acidic foods. Taking acidic foods such as pineapple, oranges, mango etc to break your fasting is very dangerous to the body. The acidic content in these fruits can corrode your stomach walls which result in stomach ulcer. You can rather take in fruits like banana, pawpaw etc to break your fast.
This doesn’t mean you can’t eat these foods at all. After 6 hour window, your body should adjust itself to accommodate these foods after you’ve ended your fasting with the right food.
