According to Opera News, the vetted and approved special prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyabeng has maintained that Assin Central legislator Kennedy Ohene Agyapong contributed to the death of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale for which reason the MP must apologise.
He made this statement before the appointment committee as a response to a question asked by Hon. Muntaka Mubarak of Asawase constituency.
The legislator referred the nominee to comments he (nominee) passed about Kennedy Agyapong after the gruesome murder of Ahmed Suale which sought to link the Assin Central legislator to the death the journalist. Hon. Muntaka asked if his comments to the legislator were borne out of hatred for the legislator.
Kissi Agyabeng maintained that, publishing the pictures of the undercover journalist on national television made it possible for him to be identified and killed. He was of the opinion that if Ahmed’s pictures were not published, probably the killers wouldn’t had known him let alone traced and killed him.
“Mr. Chairman, when No. 12 was aired in 2018, it attracted not only national interest but international as well. All the way to FIFA and CAF. Some referees and football administrators in Nigeria and Kenya lost their jobs. And this when an honourable man decided to publish pictures of the very person who conducted these investigations on a national television. That is said Hon. Kennedy Agyapong was partly responsible for Ahmed’s death. I still think that what he did was wrong and he needs to apologise for that”, Lawyer Kissi Agyabeng stated
Ahmed Suale was the principal investigator with Tiger Eye PI. He was the key investigator in No.12 and Galamsey Fraud documentaries which caught the nation and the world like storm. Following that, the undercover journalist whose identity until then was unknown had his pictures splashed on Net 2 TV by Assin Central legislator Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. He also called on people to attack him when they see him and get paid.
Few months after these comments, the journalist was shot and killed in his car. Till date, no one has been able to identify the killers. Many Ghanaians have called on the police to invite Kennedy Agyapong for questioning but that is yet to see the light of day.
Kissi Agyabeng has since been recommended by the Appointments Committee for approval by the plenary as Ghana’s second Special Prosecutor.
