Ghana Education Service Speaks On School Reopening Date For SHS 1 Students

Report convened has it that the much awaited message for parents and their wards has been made known.

In more detail, the Ghana Education Service (GES) says consultations are underway with relevant stakeholders in the education sector on a final school reopening date the 4th batch of the Free SHS beneficiaries will return to school, according to Educationweb.com.gh.

The review according to the Director-General of GES has become necessary amid the delay and postponement in the release of the 2020 SHS placement of candidates who sat for BECE for Private and School examination in 2020.

Prof Kwasi-Opoku Amankwa in an interview with the Accra-based UTV said first-year students might not report to school on 10th March 2021 as earlier scheduled.

“A new school reopening date after the consultation will be communicated to members of the general public and the prospective candidates”

Asked when the delayed 2020 SHS placement will be released, the Director-General of the Education Service said candidates, parents and the general public are to expect the placement latest by Sunday, February 28, 2021.

According to him, out of the 533,693 who registered for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) a total of 482,000 sat for the examination.

He said about 340,000 candidates will get automatic placement and the remaining 152,000 to do self-placement on the placement release date.

“340,000 candidates have been placed in the various second-cycle schools (Automatic placement), they should expect the release of the placement February 28,” He told the host of UTV Mpu ne Mpu show Mrs Yaa Konama.
