Reports reaching us indicate that the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has confirmed Serbian Coach, Milovan Rajevac as new Blackstars Head Coach.
This was after C.K Akunor was kicked out of the team.
Milovan Rajevac who has signed a two-year contract with the Ghanaian National Team will again bring an interpreter along to make communications smoother with the teammates.
It has also been confirmed that Otto Addo will be the first Assistant Coach to the Blackstars.
Otto Addo is a scout and manager, and a retired Ghanaian-German footballer who played for Ghana internationally. He is currently the assistant manager of Borussia Dortmund
Milovan Rajevac’s records
The 66-year-old tactician enjoyed a productive two-year spell with the Black Stars from 2008 to 2010.
Rajevac led Ghana to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2010 and also oversaw a run to the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
However, he left his post after refusing to sign a contract extension, moving on to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.
Milovan Rajevac has since had spells with Qatar, Algeria and Thailand, but has been without a job since 2019.
His two-year contract with Ghana will be his first Coaching job after 2019.
Milovan Rajevac was shortlisted from a list of almost 60 coaches who applied for the position of the Blackstars Head Coach after C.K Akunor’s sack.
Although he requested to be paid $70,000 per month, the GFA agreed to pay him $50,000 unlike C.K Akunor who was being paid $25,000 monthly.
The Coach is said to have landed in Ghana on Sunday, 19th September 2021.
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has terminated the appointment of Black Stars CK Akonnor and his two assistants with immediate effect.
The decision follows Ghana’s abysmal performance in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.
In a statement, the GFA said “The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has taken a decision to terminate the appointment of Black Stars Coach Charles Akonnor and his two Assistants with immediate effect. This follows the receipt of the Technical Report from the Head Coach of the Senior National Team and the report from the Black Stars Management Committee following Ghana’s Group G World Cup qualifying matches against Ethiopia and South Africa”
According to the statement, the Executive Council after considering the two reports decided to terminate its relationship with Head Coach C. K Akonnor and the two Assistants.
“The Executive Council has formed a three (3) Member Committee made up of Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida and Dr. Randy Abbey to find a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours,” the added.
The Association wished CK Akonnor and his Assistants the very best in their future endeavours.
Ghana currently has three (3) points after the two opening matches.
The Black Stars takes on Zimbabwe in the next round of games in October 2021.
