It is indeed true that one day, the charcoal seller’s son will also wear a white shirt. Somewhere last year, news went viral about one Thomas Amoaning a graduate of the Adeiso Presbyterian senior high school who had 8As in the 2020 WASSCE.

Sadly this brilliant young man had a dream of studying in one of the prestigious universities in Ghana but didn’t have any hope of seeing this dream come to a reality.

In a video sighted on Graphic.com.gh, the boy narrated how he had to walk six kilometres from his home at Asuaba to attend classes at Adeiso SHS every school day.

Despite the odds, Amoaning who offered General Arts scored As in the eight subjects he sat for in the WASSCE namely English Language, Mathematics (Core), Integrated Science, Economics, Geography, Government and Mathematics (Elective).

After all these achievements by the young scholar, what was left for him was crossing the hurdle of gaining admission into his dream university to pursue economics.

Thanks to social media, his WASSCE results went viral to the extent that it caught the eyes of the president who then directed the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat to grant the brilliant but needy boy a scholarship.

After GSS met with the family of Thomas, the dream of him studying at the University of Ghana was upgraded to a study in London.

The head of education at the Ghana high commission in London was then contacted to get the brilliant boy admission into a university in London.

His scholarship to the UK included full tuition fees, accommodation, monthly stipends return air tickets, health insurance and other benefits.
