According to, urine is a liquid by-product of metabolism in humans and many other animals. So many people only see urine as a waste product alone but this is not true. 1. No colour (transparent)

Once the colour of your urine is clear and transparent, it means you may be drinking excess water. We must stay hydrated but the amount of water to be consumed should also be regulated.

2. Pale straw to a dark yellow colour

Studies have shown that urine colour in this region shows that you’re healthy and hydrated. This is because the yellowish colour present in urine is caused by a pigment called urochrome produced by your body. There is no need to panic if you have this urine colour.

3. Amber or honey-coloured

Once your urine is dark in colour, it shows you are dehydrated. It is a clear sign that you need to drink more water.

4. Syrup or brown ale coloured

A syrup or brown ale colour shows that your dehydration level just is getting serious. Try to drink water immediately.

5. Pink to reddish coloured

Certain foods can alter the colour of your urine. You might experience pink or reddish coloured urine if you just recently eat beets, blueberries or rhubarb. Take note that pink or reddish urine can be a sign of blood in your urine, kidney disease, cancers of the kidney or bladder, kidney stones, a urinary tract infection, etc.

6. Orange coloured

Orange colour urine may signal that you are not taking enough water or you could have a liver or bile duct condition. Or it could be food dye or medications. Seek medical attention once you begin to experience this.


7. Blue or green coloured

What you eat can make the colour of your urine blue or green. However, studies have shown that a rare genetic disease pertaining to hyperglycemia can turn your urine blue or green. Seek medical help once you start noticing these signs.

8. Cloudy urine

Research has shown that urinary tract infections and kidney stones can cause urine to become cloudy. Drink more water and seek medical help once this begins to happen.
