Most young people are very ignorant about their health, making them eat any type of food they see, but this shouldn’t be encouraged. Excessive intake of some foods such as alcohol and junk could actually lead to certain health complications, especially in old age. It, therefore, becomes necessary to limit your intake of some foods as a young person. In this article, I will be showing you six types of foods you should consume regularly as a young person for healthy ageing.
1. High-protein foods.
Protein is a very essential nutrient in the body. It’s responsible for growth, fluid balance, good immune health, repair of worn-out tissues and others. As a young person, consuming protein-rich foods ensures that you don’t fall sick easily, it’s also necessary for the general well-being of the body. Some examples of high-protein diets include beans, meat, fish, eggs, milk, etc.
2. Vegetables.
The presence of vitamins and minerals in the body helps to reduce the risk of contracting certain infections. Vegetables are an excellent source of fibre, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and others. Thus making them a must-eat for anyone who wants to live a healthy life. Examples of vegetables include lettuce, carrots, cucumber, spinach, garden egg, etc.
3. Dairy products.
Consuming dairy products as a young person keeps you strong and energetic because of their rich calcium content. They’re also rich in vitamins, which supports the body’s immune system in the fight against infections. Some dairy products which young people are advised to eat regularly include cheese, egg, milk, etc.
4. Carbohydrates.
The human body cannot survive without energy because the functionality of our cells solely depends on it. Starchy foods are known to provide energy for the body, they act as fuel to our system. Young age is characterized by activeness and vigour. This is why young people should consume more starchy foods because of the energy which they provide. Garri, yam, rice, potatoes, plantain, etc. Are some examples of starchy foods.
5. Fruits.
Fruits contain fibre, minerals, and vitamins which helps to reduce the effects of ageing. They also provide the body with antioxidants which reduces a person’s risk of suffering from age-related ailments such as diabetes, heart disease, and others. Young people should try to increase their intake of fruits because they’re healthy for the body.
6. Water.
The truth is, the human body cannot survive without water, so regular intake of water is necessary for a human being, whether young or old.
