Our bodies often give warning signs to make us aware that they’re suffering from the effects of diseases that affect their cells, tissues, and organs, but sometimes we mistake the signs of one illness for another, and a very good example of this is typhoid fever and malaria.

According to Clevelandclinic, typhoid and malaria do have some common signs like headaches, temperature rises, and many others that get people confused and mistake one for the other instead of going to the hospital to have themselves medically examined and given the right treatment that meets the medical issue they are suffering from.

While people have malaria due to the parasite called plasmodium, which enters their bodies when they are bitten by mosquitoes such as the Anopheles mosquitoes, typhoid, on the other hand, affects people when they consume foods or water that have been infected with a bacteria known as salmonella typhi, which attacks their intestines and causes inflammation of their walls and the whole tract. However, in this article, I want to briefly discuss four signs that show you have typhoid and not malaria.

1. One of the clear signs that show you have typhoid and not malaria is that typhoid causes you to have a temperature rise and you become feverish gradually, and the fever shows up today and leaves tomorrow, meaning that you can feel it for a while and then you don’t feel it again, and then it comes over again, burning all through your body. However, malaria is not like that. The fever that malaria gives comes abruptly and stays with an increasing temperature until treatment is administered.

Please, if you notice that you have a fever that switches modes like going on and off, you should immediately go to the hospital for a medical checkup and receive good medication or treatment.

2. The headache caused by malaria isn’t a severe one, but when you suffer from typhoid, you will develop a very strong headache that persists and doesn’t go away. Your stomach will also ache a lot due to the action of the salmonella typhoid bacteria that affects the cells of the intestines and causes them to swell up.

3. Unlike malaria, which can still give you the chance to eat, having typhoid prevents you from eating as you want because it makes you purge more and thus experience diarrhea often, and you will lose energy and strength due to the loss of electrolytes that are passed out of the body as a result of frequent purging, and this further causes you to become fatigued and fall asleep from time to time. When you experience these signs, you should immediately visit a nearby hospital for testing and treatment.

It’s important that you take these signs seriously and don’t mistake them for malaria to get yourself medication, which can be dangerous. You should rather consult your doctor and get a proper diagnosis and treatment accordingly.
