A wedding in Indian experienced different bouts of emotions momentarily when the bride, perhaps overwhelmed by the occasion, collapsed and died at her own wedding but the ceremony still continued as the groom married the bride’s sister.
According to the Times of India, Surabhi and Mangesh Kumar were tying the knot in a Hindu ceremony on May 27 in Uttar Pradesh, India, when during the exchange of the garlands, Surabhi collapsed.
News 18 reported a doctor was called, who then pronounced her dead of an apparent heart attack.
According to News 18, the bride and groom’s families agreed that the wedding would still go on and the bride’s younger sister, Nisha, would marry Mangesh.
Surabhi’s uncle Ajab Singh told news agency IANS that the families made the decision to have Kumar wed her younger sister, Nisha, instead, which he claims was a “tough call” for them.
He said: “One daughter lay dead in one room and the wedding of another daughter was being solemnized in the other room. We have never witnessed such mixed emotions.
“The grief over her death and the happiness of the wedding have yet to sink in.”
He said: “Both the families sat together and someone suggested that my younger sister Nisha should be married to the groom. The families discussed the matter and both agreed.”
